Are you a Pachyderm?

Pachyderm- a person who is not sensitive to critisism, ridicule, ect.
Literally means being thick skinned.

That is what writers need to be.

You send in your beloved manuscript into a agent or publisher, thinking theres no way that they could turn it down.
To your suprise, they do.
Something wasn't right.  It wasn't polished enough, wouldn't sell, not their genre or cup of tea, ect...

After you pick your jaw up which had dropped to the ground, you start pounding on the keys on your keyboard back to the person who had insulted you.

What authority do you have to say that?  And blah blah blah... and I'm sure some other words.

This isn't the right approach.

Didn't you know that this is their job?  Ya know, critiquing?
And if you can't stand being rejected (which they probably have a good reason to) ....

You need to find something else to do.

Because....
Everyone does!
I've seen writers who post pictures of their rejection letters that pile high like this.

Ok, ,maybe not this bad, but you get what I mean.

The right thing to do it this:
1.  Have that slight moment of disapointment, scribble out that angry letter(throw it away afterwards)
2. Take a walk or get a drink to cool yourself down
3. Examine what is wrong.
There could be a number of things, and really it could be that you and that agent just don't click.
4. Fix the problems
Have a friend or colegue look it over
5. Try again.

Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Dr. Suess, C.S. Lewis, all famous authors, have something in common.
They were all rejected, but they didn't give up.  They didn't let the rejection letters get to them.

So are you the pachyderm, or are you the blubbering idoit who shakes their fist, writes the angry insulting letter to the agent or publisher, and quits?
